VR promotional apps for Lower Silesia
Marshal’s Office of Lower Silesia.
As part of the project “Economic promotion of the Lower Silesian Voivodship on domestic and international markets”, the Marshal’s Office Economic Promotion Department was looking for a solution that would properly present Lower Silesia at international fairs.
For this purpose, they planned to create an application with 360 content for platforms such as iOS, Android and virtual reality. Key advantages of Lower Silesia for foreign investors include:
- great scientific infrastructure
- educated youth and qualified employees
- free areas for investments within several economic zones
- presence of international companies that have already invested in Lower Silesia
“Economic promotion of the Lower Silesian Voivodship on national and international markets” is all about the content. We have recorded footage of most interesting and innovative companies. These include NSK, Toyota, Weber Hydraulics, CCC, Faurecia) within several economic zones (WSSE, LSSE, SSEMP), R&D centers (PORT, WPT, DPiN) and scientific units (Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Wrocław Medical University). We also recorded 360 video content of tourist attractions (NFM, Centennial Hall, Wrocław Stadium, Airport, photos from the drone from the city center, walking areas along the Oder, dam in Lubachów, “Former Mine” Science and Art Centre, Lądek-Zdrój health resort) .
While filming, we used a few particularly creative techniques, placing 360 cameras on a working assembly line, on a crane carrying bulky loads as well as in cages with robots. Many scenes were also shot from a drone.
We have prepared 3 multimedia applications using virtual reality (VR) technology and 360 content:
- application with 8 VR movies
- virtual tour application around R&D units of Lower Silesia
- 360 photo gallery for VR devices
Each of above applications has been prepared for the following platforms: HTC Vive, Oculus (Samsung) Gear VR, Google Cardboard, and Android phones and tablets (Google Play) and iOS (App Store). We employed a magic boxes technique – for applications to be used also without VR goggles.
Applications were presented at international trade fairs and attracted many visitors.
- CeBIT 2018 in Hannover
- IFA 2018 in Berlin
- CIFIT 2018 in Xiamen, China
Fair participants drawn by new VR technology were standing in line to experience a virtual walk around Lower Silesia. This enabled Marshal’s Office to start a dialogue with potential investors and provide them with more information. Thanks to the many platforms on which applications operate, visitors can also download them to their phones and tablets. They can browse content not only at the fair using VR goggles, but also enjoy the same applications in the office or at home.
